Arsinoe's Assasination

Updated: Jun 2, 2021

Society frown upon murderers. Most of us can't fathom ourselves killing somebody else, but we're acutely aware that others have no problem with killing. There are those who made a career from killing, and assassins' honed their skills to make the taboo act an art. This fictional short story deals with what might be going on in the mind of such a person.

Background

In Ancient Egypt, most of us learned that the monarchs, like in Europe, was obsessed with power. It hasn't changed, but as some families fight for trinkets during the distribution of an inheritance, monarchs tend to kill family members for kingdoms.

One such instance is where the popular and legendary beauty, Cleopatra, murders her siblings for the crown.

Bernice, her elder sister murdered their mother to inherit the throne for herself. She lost the throne to her two younger siblings, Theos and Cleopatra. They marry to strengthen their reign, and Cleopatra poisons Theos. Cleopatra's plan to kill Julius Caesar fails, and Julius takes Cleopatra's younger sister, Arsinoe. He does however spare her life and exiled her to live in the Temple of Artemis in Euphesus. Read more about this in the following link.

Cleopatra convinces Mark Antony (Markus Anthonius ) to kill Arsinoe, and this is where this story begins.

Summary

Decimus Brutus is a proud assassins' who proudly ranks as an elite assassin for hire. He has an unusual calling as in his mind, he helps poor souls move on to a better place. He religiously believes he sets them free from a cruel world. Killing Arsinoe would be his honour. He feels sorry for her.

As he kills her, he goes through the same emotions as a man who makes love to a woman. He looks for the reaction in her eyes when she feels pain, similar to a man looking for pleasure. Pain is pleasure and in his way, he falls in love with his victim.

Reason for the story

We all imagine that killers are psychopaths. A person without emotions, finding the barrier between wrong and right very blurry. Psychopaths and Sociopaths exist, but the world has more killers than what this condition might have produced.

There could also be another reason why assasins exist. It can be that their perception to killing is different from hours. He doesn't kill out of survival or necessity, but as his duty to reduce the number of suffering souls from the face of this earth.

He didn't create the situation, nor did he order the killing. If he doesn't do it, somebody else will, but he has empathy for his victims. Is he doing wrong?
