Merging Realities

Besides the obvious alteration of our perspective of life, which depends on our mood, what if alternate realities are all around us. Very similar, but yet leads into different directions. Our mood can be changed by altering the balance of chemicals in our brain. We stay the same, but somehow, different drugs make us happy, sad, aggressive or paranoid. Many people are depressed, and guess what doctors prescribe? Yes, pills that change our depressed state of mind by fixing a balance of chemicals and hormones.
What is real?
Real is what you experience at that moment. Your emotions change how you feel about your circumstances, but it doesn't change them. You do make emotional decisions which impact your future though, so an alternate mood determines an alternate future. Going ten years down the line, what if you could see the different possibilities of circumstances you would be in, based on changing a decision a few years ago. Every time we make a choice, we change the protectory of our life. All of these are possible realities we could have lived, depending on our choices. Our reality is the one with the choices we made and lead us to where we are now.
The Inexplicable
Ignoring people who lie, some believe that they've seen ghosts. They classify it as paranormal, because it isn't what we can scientifically explain. There are many theories, on what ghosts are, but what if there's a simple explanation that society don't want to acknowledge in fear of being labeled as insane. A parallel universe fits the bill. So does the quantum theory. Andrea Schulman explains this very well on her channel. We might see glimpses of an alternate reality which gets too close to ours. Acknowledging de-ja-vu, ghosts or luck, to name a few, means that you're bordering on insanity, but are you really or are people afraid like an ancient society that would be prosecuted for believing that the world is not flat.
Synopsis of the story
Jake is a teenage student, studying chemistry who realize that there is a Pandemic breaking out. He has a strained relationship with his mother after his dad went missing and was declared dead. His mom doesn't seem bothered by the change of situation, but Jake finds comfort in his dad's dad, Jack, who is an elderly ex-intelligence officer who everyone believe slightly senile.
Jack reveals to Jake that his dad worked on fringe theories before he went missing, and two of them were about time travelling and quantum leaping. After Jack is arrested for hacking into secret German files, both are Bain washed, which didn't work properly, and Jake finds that his mom knows more than she led on. His girlfriend is a mystical person Jake care's for, but don't want to get too serious with at the time. After smoking pot, Jake finds himself in a different reality where his mom and dad explains that it is possible to choose your reality and move amongst them at will, but he needs to be vigilant of his surroundings. He might be a married dad himself.
Story Insight
This story was written during the initial stages of the pandemic in 2020, where everything was uncertain. President Donald Trump's reign sounded too bizarre to be real. It was like someone was playing a joke on the world. Then came a global pandemic, with statistics flying around of people dying by the thousands. Panic due to fake news made everything worse, and it was like everything was too surreal, but we're all lucid. Or are we?...
One start to wonder when the world could change so quickly, how many other things could change as well? If a space ship lands on earth, who will be the first ones to dare tell the world the mad news, and who will believe it? Everything we experience as real could be a figment of our imaginations, and that there is so much of our existence we don't know. We might not have special powers, but is it because we believe we don't have them or because we don't know how to train them? Is our society ready for technology that enables us to astral project, communicate with ghosts, animals or by telepathy. If that happens, mental hospitals will have to bear with sane people for a while.
