Video Production Journey
Every interest together with every skill learned is rooted in an epic tale. This is mine.
Video is the manifestation of an idea.
As a writer, I'm continuously aware of my skill limitations. Having a clear image in my mind doesn't always manifest itself in my writing as well as I would like. Taking into account that our imagination is derived from what experiences we had while growing older, the transformation of that image usually gets obscured and the delivery sometimes differ from the intended one.
As a movie buff, I wanted to eliminate the possibility of personal experiences interfering with the clarity of my story delivery, so I started to dab into filmmaking. That was a rabbit hole I enjoyed descending into. I found that filmmaking has more elements to it than editing a few clips into a video, and I'm not even touching on special effects.
First, I realised that the usual video editing software just won't cut it the way I wanted to, so I invested in a YouTube-recommended affordable option. Wondershare Filmora helped me out until I reached its limitations, so I moved on to using Davinci Resolve. Now, at the start of 2023, I'm frustrating myself in learning every function I might need.
" Dreaming About The Future"
During a music performance project, I learned that my trusty Canon Legra video camera captured lowlight footage quite well. It disappointed me in the past, so I decided that I'll only use it during daytime shoots. During the music video project at the end of 2022, I migrated from Wonedshare Filmora to Davinci Resolve, and one of the first skills I taught myself from YouTube was colour grading. My dark footage came out awesome and I felt extremely chuffed with my equipment.
Now, confident with my new abilities, I felt ready to take on any project. Knowing very well that most confidence sprouts from ignorance, I still feel that there are tons of video editing skills that I still need to learn, but I'm sorted with the basic projects.

I believe that the learning curve will steepen shortly as I become better familiar with the new program.

That said, besides from 3d filmmaking, some technology we don't have yet.
I feel that it is a form of mind manipulation that filmmakers use to craft stories. Music and colour are only a few elements which set a mood which ultimately influences how we perceive a scene. For instance, if a baby falls off a step and there is laughter in the background, we perceive it as funny. The opposite factors could make us cringe in sympathy when the baby gets hurt.

These are tricks that manipulate emotion and sympathy. In the future, maybe with Elon Musk's Nuralink, a 4D movie will be possible where we can experience pain and emotions at the intensity as the movie director wanted.
Learning to edit like a pro will definitely be a lengthy process, but it gave me an idea of what the limitations are when writing movie scripts. Getting adverts to the level of professionalism I imagine will teach me the finer details. I don't believe many video editors can call themselves professionals until that is their full-time occupation. The entire process excites me, and although my ignorance frustrates me, I still feel that creating the image in my mind as a digital video puts me above traditional filmmakers who stick to the rules that they were taught. Here's a hint into my personality, I don't like limitations, I don't like to be told no and I'm a stickler for pushing boundaries.
