Putting people in your fantasy was done by game creators for many years. It’s much like a simulation to see what people would do in your idea within parameters which don’t have to be normal.
Introduction
Those close to me, mostly know that I think that there is considerable truth or realism in the simulation theory. In short, the simulation theory is about the possibility of us living in a simulation, much like in the movie Matrix. Obviously, there are pros and cons to this type of thinking, but generally, I think that much of it can be our current reality.
Actually supposed to help start cleaning our apartment, I quickly had to write this as a felt I just had to. As with my short stories in my book, “Illusion of Normal”, this is my thought process which I always come back to if I don’t see the end of my reasoning. It is how I make sense of things. So bear with me, and let’s go on this journey with an open mind.
The Trigger
We all knew that computer games are basically mini-simulations. Virtual reality is something new which we don’t fully understand as with artificial intelligence. Both have significant potential to be a good or a bad thing.
As a storyteller, my purpose is to transfer a message in the clearest intended form, whether it is real or fabricated. I think our minds tend to seek fantasy as it wants to take a break from what is normal. That is why we play games, go on vacations or simply watch movies or read books. My obsession is fantasy because the parameters aren’t normal. I hate normal. It is nice and predictable, but boring.
Every time I wrote a story, I always put myself in the story and wish my audience can see it as I do. I recently found it works better if they are slightly drugged, probably because it opens up their minds to situations which aren’t based on the parameters of our current reality. Probably an insight into whom I should market my book.
I found that with my writing I try to put my readers in my dreamlike state of what could be a reality for someone else. With the new skills I’m acquiring now, I might even get better at it, and this is why I think my purpose has greater potential than I initially thought.
Learning Blender
Clearing up the picture or situation I have in my mind is sometimes difficult to translate. It doesn’t always come out as I intended, but I think it is usually due to the lack of skills for me not being a professional in that specific media medium. Try to think of it this way, explain your dream to someone else. They usually don’t find it as exciting or as scary as you are, because they weren’t there with you. You’re merely trying to recreate the situation for them, but they have other things and experiences which formed their personality.
I never thought much about creating things for virtual reality, other than putting 360-degree cameras in cars during an oval-track race and livestream it. It allows the audience to switch between cars and look at what each driver can see without the physical danger. Either way, I wanted to create a character as a project for cricket which could be used as the mascot. In Blender, it is supposed to be much easier to animate a sequence of scenes with that same character, which will make the production of adverts for them so much easier and unique.
On my journey, I found that you can create entire worlds in Blender and move through them using an artificial video camera. This might sound much like playing a game, and that is where I’m heading at. I also found that you can import entire cities into the program and change it however you like. In my mind, it is a way of merging the actual reality with which everyone is familiar, changing parameters and mixing fantasy into it. Now it is possible to recreate dreams and not only revisit the same situation but also allow others to do it as well.
Possibilities
My current thought process makes me feel as if it might be a breakthrough to tell/ teach others a story with the same excitement and clarity as what you had when visiting it the first time. It obviously depends on how well you recreate the situation because, with books, your imagination actually fills in the blanks and makes it relate to something you already know.
Coming back to the simulation theory, I think we are getting closer to a point where we can emerge a person into a recreated world with altered parameters and study how they react to things which aren’t real. Virtual reality makes things appear more real than they really are, so how would you actually know when you’re in a simulation or not? If the environment is controlled as well as everyone you interact with, you would only recognize things that don’t make sense. Well, I think that people who are advanced in making simulations would start to limit their mistakes with experience. A natural process of experience.
I don’t think creating these worlds will be something that comes across my path, but some of it which I saw on the internet fascinates me. Fantastic worlds which I would love to walk around in, but also create for advertising my client’s products. While people are always drawn to something different and abnormal, I believe that it might be the natural progression of our reality to move into this situation, making me wonder whether we aren’t in one already.
Signs
While others who believe in the simulation theory debate whether we can see signs of being in a simulation, I’m not fully convinced yet. I do believe that we’re creating technology now which will make it possible in the future, but one can always wonder.
Things I constantly challenge myself with is what would happen if we could communicate with animals the way we humans communicate with each other. We want to migrate to Mars, but if we find other lifeforms there, do we really expect them to speak English like in the movies? If we can’t even communicate with the creatures on Earth, how will we ever be able to communicate with a species we know nothing about?
For some reason, I always have the idea that birds are spies for nature. I know it sounds insane, but they’re nearly always chirping and we can’t differentiate them much. What if we could listen to their conversations? They most surely would be talking about us, even though we have much to learn from them. None of them needs money and they don’t look down on each other, figuratively speaking. Driving my wife to work this morning, I had two instances where I had to slow down for pigeons not flying away fast enough when I approached, coming back home.
I wondered at the moment, if it was a simulation, does it mean that the mini-programs that run the reactions of the pigeons could be faulty at times, and if so, could it mean that I came across two faulty programs on my way home? We have a word for it, de-ja-vu, but I know this wasn’t it.
Conclusion
So whether I’ll be part of the creation of simulations in the future is a journey we’ll have to wait and see, but I do find it fascinating to recreate my dreams for others to explore. The element of dangerous activities will always be present, but I don’t even know about them being created yet. Artificial intelligence regulations are merely a subject for discussion at the moment, but it starts to look more like a possibility which cannot be too far in the future. Will it be a stage where we catch up with that where we find our maker or the end of the world, or will it merely be a breakthrough to a different reality? Will it be heaven or part of a journey towards it?
