Storyteller Jurg is Jürgen Smith's personal website that contains his portfolio, resume and an insight to what he is about.
The Purpose
This website has several purposes. Firstly, it is a space for my clients and potential employers to get to know me. Being busy in an industry that needs proof of capabilities more than documented education, this website envelopes my services, my style, history and links to previous projects as proof.
After a few years, one tends to build quite a portfolio, but as a storyteller, I've told a fair share of stories on several methods. This provides proof thereof as well as how I came to accumulate the skills to tell them. Maybe unconventional or feeling a bit out of depth creating a space for who I am, I kind of like the idea that whoever crosses my path professionally can have a convenient store type of space where they can explore everything they want to know about me. Up close and personal, like who I am.
Secondly, I share my journey so that others can learn from my mistakes. Like me, other storytellers walk a similar journey, but feel alone against the world to achieve their life purpose. I can't teach people passion to tell stories, that is an art that sprouts from one's soul, but I have plenty experience in the delivering method. I believe that I can help with that.
Thirdly, I'd like to build a working relationship with my community where they can feel free to acquire my services and customize a project that will serve their needs. In an unusual world, normal services rarely solve challenging needs perfectly like a glove. My question was, why not and can I change that.
What to expect from future blogs
Storytelling is continuously evolving. Just like we're getting better at telling stories in the form of creating media, so do we find new ways to use our equipment. To do that, its best to learn the limitations of equipment, but it is also good to stop being so negative and about what equipment can't do and rather consider the advantages of what they can do.
If you're like me who need to purchase my own equipment, I usually do lots of research beforehand and then weigh up how the possibilities will serve my needs. The ultimate deciding factor usually is what I can afford, which in my case, limits the range of equipment that is available.
As a creative, my journey presented a fair amount of challenges which educated me harshly about my gear, techniques and ideas. At the same time, pushing boundaries, I found a few gems of which I am proud of and feel that I'm doing creatives with similar aspirations a disservice by not sharing them.
Feedback
I'm not that popular yet, so I have the time to respond to your feedback. It is valuable to me as well as others who follow this blog, so feel free to join this journey. Share it or whatever you feel comfortable with, but tell your story. Type what's on your mind or keep wondering how others will react to your thoughts.
I'm open and brutality honest without any aspirations to sugarcoat life's realities. I expect the same from others so that I can learn from them. That eliminates confusion, but always remember that being unique means not conforming to normal standards.
