LMS Cricket Winter League Launch

On Sunday the 21st of May, the LMS Winter League launched its first round. Bloemfontein experienced perfect winter weather the entire week that was punctuated by brilliant conditions for match day.
Like in 2022, the pitches were covered by new mats. This caused a few challenging changes which the players will need to get used to for the remainder of the Winter Season.
We've live-streamed three matches and this is what happened.

Toxic Bloem vs MCC Sixers
Toxic Bloem launched their Winter league with 155 runs in their 20 allotted overs in Sunday’s Las Man Stands match against the MCC Sixers. Johannes Liebenberg retired with 50 runs from 33 balls.
Although none of the MCC Sixers earned themselves a 50, the team played extremely well together and little seemed to go wrong for them. They responded with 159 runs, losing merely 4 wickets, all by the 18th over.
This was an exciting match to follow, even though the LMS server experienced an overload which caused a delay in live scoring. Their technicians are working on the problem and should hopefully be fixed by the next round. Through the technical challenges on the app, it is a pity that we failed to capture beautiful double plays during the first innings, but we managed to capture more exciting cricket during the rest of the match.

Saints vs Toxic Eagles
Toxic Eagles opened the match and scored a challenging 140 runs without losing any wickets. Tommy Kock and Johannes Liebenberg both retired after scoring 50/34 and 51/33 respectively.
Saints struggled to find answers for the TE defence but ended their innings brilliantly with a Home Run by Andy Steyn who also earned himself a 54/34.
The Player of the Match award went to Bennie Lubbe for scoring 30/29 and taking 2 wickets with his bowling.

Bloem Bombers vs Bester Masters
Bloem Bombers opened the match and scored 137 runs, losing only one wicket. Alvin Potgieter and Eddie Engelbrecht both retired after scoring 50/44 and 51/32 with the bat respectively.
Out of the gates, Bester Masters excitedly attacked the boundaries until losing 2 wickets in quick succession. They were well on track to make the match a short affair, but after losing two more wickets in a double play, lady luck seemed to have turned her back on them. Bloem Bombers fielded brilliantly with their fielders remaining in the midfield, putting the Masters under pressure. Bester Masters managed to score 120 runs, losing 6 wickets.
Perry Lamprecht stamped down his authority by taking the Player of the Match award with brilliant bowling. 3 wickets – 4 overs -13 runs
